Mission Statement
Empowering survivors. Restoring autonomy. Demanding reform.
We are a survivor-led nonprofit dedicated to empowering those who have endured unjust psychiatric detainment and have experienced harm within the mental health system.
Our mission is to transform lived experience into collective strength and meaningful reform.
We provide accessible legal education, survivor-led support groups, and essential resources that foster healing and autonomy. Together, we work to bridge the gap between survival and recovery, restoring voice and power to those who have been systematically silenced and advocating for reform.
FAQs
What is the purpose of Texans for Mental Healthcare Rights and Reform?
TMHRR exists to empower survivors of psychiatric detention and abuse to reclaim their autonomy, build supportive community, and use their lived experiences to drive meaningful, systemic change in mental healthcare.
How can I get involved?
We encourage you to share your story in whatever way feels right for you. That could mean joining a group discussion, submitting your experience anonymously for media or legislative use, or getting hands-on support to testify in hearings about the issues that matter most to you.
Your story is yours—always. You decide how, when, and whether it’s shared. Our role is simply to make sure you have the tools, safety, and support to use your voice on your own terms.
Can I receive support if I haven’t been detained?
Absolutely. We support anyone affected by harmful mental health detentions—including friends, family members, spouses, and loved ones seeking understanding, community, or resources.
How can I support Texans for Mental Health Rights?
Support the movement by shopping our survivor-designed keychains, stickers, and magnets—100% of proceeds fund our survivor-led nonprofit and community programs.
Not able to give financially? You can still help by following, sharing, and listening to the Involuntary Insights podcast. Every action, big or small, helps build a community where survivors are supported.
